**Stanza 39:** We are told that the wolf that will eat the moon is descendant from Fenrir.
‘East in Járnviðr sat the old one
and there gave birth to Fenrir’s brood;
from among all those a certain one becomes
the moon’s pitchforker(?) in troll’s form.
**Stanza 52:** Fenrir is mentioned as “the wolf” in relation to his fight with Óðinn at Ragnarok.
‘Then Hlín’s second sorrow comes to pass,
when Óðinn goes to fight against the wolf,
and the bright slayer of Beli against Surtr;
then Frigg’s Angantýr will fall.
**Stanza 53:** Fenrir is mentioned as “the slaughter-beast” in relation to Víðarr killing him at Ragnarok.
‘Then comes the mighty son of Sigfaðir,
Víðarr, to fight against the slaughter-beast;
with his hand he lets a sword stand at the heart
of Hveðrungr’s son; then is his father avenged.
**Stanza 46-47:** Fenrir is mentioned in relation to him destroying Sól.
Óðinn said:
46. ‘Much have I travelled, much have I tried,
much have I tested the powers;
whence will Sól come [back] to the smooth sky,
once Fenrir has destroyed this one?’
Vafþrúðnir said:
47. ‘Álfrǫðull will bear one daughter
before Fenrir destroys her;
that girl must ride, when the powers die,
the paths of her mother.’
**Stanza 38-39:** While Loki insults Týr, he refers to Fenrir as the one who tore his right hand, then Týr referens to Fenrir as “the wolf” “who must wait in bonds”.
Loki said:
38. ‘Silence, Týr! You never knew how to
make fair [peace] between two [parties];
I will refer to it, the right hand
which Fenrir tore from you!’
Týr said:
39. ‘I’m wanting a hand, and you [are wanting] Hróðrsvitnir,
the affliction is intense pain for us both;
things don’t go well for the wolf, either, who must wait
in bonds for the darkness of the powers!’
Chapter 12-14(p.15): The wolves that chase the sun and moon are said to be descended from "Fenrir's kind," bred by an old giantess in Ironwood.
In the east lives the old one, in Ironwood, and breeds there Fenrir’s kind. Out of them all comes one in particular, sun’s snatcher in troll’s guise.
Chapter 27-34(p.26): Fenriswolf is introduced as one of the three monstrous children of Loki and the giantess Angrboda.
With her Loki had three children. One was Fenriswolf, the second Iormungand (i.e. the Midgard serpent), the third is Hel.
Chapter 34(p.27-28-29): The full narrative of the binding of Fenrir is told. Foreseeing the danger he posed, the Æsir attempt to bind him. He breaks the first two fetters, Leyding and Dromi. They then have the dwarfs forge the magical fetter Gleipnir. Fenrir, suspicious, agrees to be bound only if one of the gods places a hand in his mouth as a pledge. Týr is the only one who dares. When Fenrir cannot break Gleipnir, he bites off Týr's hand.
‘The Æsir brought up the wolf at home, and it was only Tyr who had the courage to approach the wolf and give it food. And when the gods saw how much it was growing each day, and all prophecies foretold that it was destined to cause them harm, then the Æsir adopted this plan...
[...]
‘But all the Æsir looked at each other and found themselves in a dilemma and all refused to offer their hands until Tyr put forward his right hand and put it in the wolf’s mouth. [...] Then they all laughed except for Tyr. He lost his hand.
Chapter 51(p.53-54): It is foretold that at the start of Ragnarok, Fenriswolf will break free from his bonds. He will fight against the gods, and his fate is to swallow Odin before being killed by Odin's son, Vidar.
Then Fenriswolf will get free. [...] But Fenriswolf will go with mouth agape and its upper jaw will be against the sky and its lower one against the earth. [...] The wolf will swallow Odin. That will be the cause of his death. And immediately after Vidar will come forward and step with one foot on the lower jaw of the wolf... and this will cause the wolf’s death.
Chapter 52-53(p.56): After Ragnarok, the surviving gods will sit and discuss past events, including the story of Fenriswolf.
Then they will all sit down together and talk and discuss their mysteries and speak of the things that had happened in former times, of the Midgard serpent and Fenriswolf.
