Stanza 48: In a list of apocalyptic signs, the seeress states that Naglfar breaks loose.
‘Hrymr drives from the east, heaves his shield before him,
Jǫrmungandr writhes in giant-rage;
the snake lashes waves, and the eagle shrieks,
the fallow-nosed one tears corpses, Naglfar breaks loose.
Stanza 49: The poem clarifies that Naglfar is a ship that carries Loki, the giants, and the wolf to the final battle.
‘A ship fares from the east, Muspell’s forces
will come over the sea, and Loki steers;
all the giant’s kindred travel with the ravener,
Býleiptr’s brother is with them on the voyage.
Chapter 43-44(p. 37): While describing Freyr's ship Skidbladnir, the text contrasts it with Naglfari, identifying the latter as the largest of all ships and associating it with Muspell.
Skidbladnir is a good ship, but it must require a very great deal of magic to make something like that... but the biggest ship is Naglfari, it belongs to Muspell.
Chapter 51(p. 53): During the description of the cataclysmic events of Ragnarök, the text details the ship's construction and its release upon the world.
Then it will also happen that Naglfar will be loosed from its moorings, the ship of that name. It is made of dead people’s nails, and it is worth taking care lest anyone die with untrimmed nails, since such a person contributes much material to the ship Naglfar which gods and men wish would take a long time to finish. And in this flood Naglfar will be carried along.
Chapter 51-52(p. 55): A verse from the poem Völuspá is quoted, describing the events of Ragnarök, including the ship being set free.
The serpent churns the waves, the eagle will screech with joy, darkly pale it tears corpses, Naglfar is loosed.
Chapter 75(p. 162): Naglfari is included in a long, categorical list of names for ships.
Now I shall expound the names of ships. Ark, oar-claw, ash, Sessrumnir, cutter, scout, ship and Skidbladnir, nave, Naglfari, row-boat, snack.
