Stanza 43-44: The poem recounts that the sons of Ívaldi created Skíðblaðnir, the best of ships, for Freyr.
43.‘Ívaldi’s sons went in early days
to build Skíðblaðnir,
best of ships, for shining Freyr,
for the able son of Njǫrðr.
44.‘The ash of Yggdrasill, it’s the greatest of trees,
and Skíðblaðnir of ships,
Óðinn of Æsir, and Sleipnir of steeds,
Bilrǫst of bridges, and Bragi of poets,
Hábrók of hawks, and Garmr of hounds,
and Brimir of swords.
Chapter 42(p. 36): When discussing the foremost of various things, the Æsir themselves declare Skidbladnir to be the best of ships. And Gangleri asks about the ship.
“The ash Yggdrasil, this is the foremost of trees, and Skidbladnir of ships..." […]
Then spoke Gangleri: ‘What is there to be told about Skid- bladnir if it is the best of ships? Is there no other ship as good as it or as big?’ High said: ‘Skidbladnir is the best ship and constructed with
Chapter 43(p. 37): High elaborates on Skidbladnir's origins and abilities, confirming it as the best and most ingeniously crafted ship.
Skidbladnir is the best ship and constructed with greatest ingenuity... It was certain dwarfs, sons of Ivaldi, that made Skidbladnir and gave Freyr the ship. It is big enough for all the Æsir to be able to go aboard it with weapons and war gear, and it gets a fair wind as soon as the sail is hoisted, wherever it is required to go. And when it is not to be taken to sea, then it is made of so many parts and with such great art that it can be folded up like a cloth and put in one’s pocket.
Chapter 5-8(p. 75): When listing kennings for Freyr, the text explicitly states that he is the "possessor of Skidbladnir" and includes a verse about its creation by the sons of Ivaldi.
He is possessor of Skidbladnir and of the boar known as Gullinbursti, as it says here: Ivaldi’s sons set to work in days of yore to construct Skidbladnir, best of ships, for bright Freyr, bounteous son of Niord.
Chapter 34-35(p. 96): The creation of Skidbladnir is recounted in the story of Loki's mischief. After cutting Sif's hair, Loki commissions the sons of Ivaldi to create several treasures to appease the gods.
After this Loki went to some dwarfs called Ivaldi’s sons, and they made the head of hair and Skidbladnir and the spear belonging to Odin called Gungnir.
Chapter 35-36(p. 97): When Loki presents the treasures to the gods, he gives the ship to Freyr and lists its magical qualities.
Then Loki gave the spear Gungnir to Odin, the head of hair which was to be Sif’s to Thor, and Skidbladnir to Freyr, and announced the features of all the precious things... and Skidbladnir had a fair wind as soon as its sail was hoisted, wherever it was intended to go, and could be folded up like a cloth and put in one’s pocket if desired.
Chapter 75(p. 162): Skidbladnir is included in a long list of names and terms for ships.
Now I shall expound the names of ships. Ark, oar-claw, ash, Sessrumnir, cutter, scout, ship and Skidbladnir, nave, Naglfari, row-boat, snack.
